In an era when most fiction seems to come from a brownstone in Brooklyn or an MFA program at some insulated university, this book rings with authenticity. It’s a pithy, humorous and compassionate look at lives lived at the end of their gritty road in a far corner of America. This is an important book and I only hope that it reaches a wide audience.
As a former Minnesotan I laughed out loud at the authors descriptions of winter in Minnesota.. He weaves a tale in a creative, descriptive fashion that makes you feel that you are there with this couple and you really know them. There are surprises, twists and turns that keep you guessing until the very end. This would be a fun book to take on your next vacation, especially if that vacation is in Florida! I will be waiting for the sequel!
This was an easy but entertaining book to read. I could relate to snowy winters and the thought of retirement in a warm climate. Not an easy decision. The author brought out all our insecurities in an entertaining way. I would highly recommend this as we follow this couple on a completely different look of retirement.. I look forward to his next installment of life in retirement.
This is a book I think many people will be able to relate to. It is written in a very down-to-earth manner about one man and his wife facing retirement and struggling with all the aspects of this life-changing decision that many of us face. It is a heart-felt and honest look at how one comes to the decision that now is the time to retire, and the process of moving, picking up and moving to a whole new life in Florida. There are aspects of cultural shock as they adapt to the new climate and the new people in their lives. It shows us a picture of life in a retirement community and I found that alone very interesting. The story line and plot are very creative and really kept my interest. I wanted to know how things were going to turn out for our retirement couple. The author has been able to bring together both an informative look at their new life situation along with weaving a compelling drama. I highly recommend this book.
